It’s related to the ability or inability to assimilate into a group, as well as the variation of behavior which is tolerated within a particular group..

Why do SOME guys mistake assertiveness for complaining?

I have seen and heard some guys call strong, confident assertive women a “b****”.

Why is that? Are we not allowed to respectfully and firmly say no and stand up for ourselves if we are being violated?

No I know there are some complainers who aren’t assertive at all, they’re either mean, disrespectful and aggressive or passive and complains.

Some men want and expect women to agree with everything that they say, because it makes their lives easier. They will cut you down for standing up for your rights, even though the same behavior on a man’s part would earn their respect. Just keep being assertive and standing up for yourself, because if you don’t, no one else will.

——

Because “some” guys are old-fashioned and simply cannot comprehend that women, though they look very similar to men except for one little body part of a difference, can easily out-wit any man and therefore they get on the defensive and say that women are naggy and whiney.

Why do Best friends usually look alike and act alike??

but sometimes grow apart, only to not be best friends. I understand one friend is not where they think they should be in life, but if they were best friends why do she think that would matter to the one that got it going on.

In general, when one looks for a friend, they seek common ground (same phase of life, similar interests, similar tastes, etc). One dominant theory is that you basically are looking for someone like yourself. As you spend more time with the person, any differences may become blurred as you embark on your friend’s interests and start to subconsciously take on similar speech, mannerisms, and growing interests. This is likely a reinforcer of the friendship since you spend enjoyable time with them. However, if for example, one friend gets married and has children, the similarities start to end. It becomes more difficult to relate to the person, since she has acquired new interests and perhaps widened her circle of friends to include other couples with children. Some are able to maintain friendships long term, but like all relationships, they take work, and one has to accept change

Most people when they are born have a determination to figure out what makes them complete…. Its like a missing gap. Some of thise people think that if they know where they came from that they can figure out more anout themselves thus filling some kind of mental or spiritual gap within themselves…

Suppose the price elasticity of demand for your economics textbook is -1. If the publisher raises the price by 5 percent,

a) revenues will rise 5 percent
b) quantity demanded will rise 5 percent
c) total revenues will not change
d) revenues will fall
e) revenues will fall 5 percent

e) revenues will fall 5 percent

E = ?Q% / ?P%
?Q% / ?P% = -1
?P% = +5%
?Q% = -1 * 5 = -5%

———

It’s “E”……..

Elasticity of Demand = Percentage change in quantity/ Percentage change in price

-1 = Percentage change in quantity / +5%

Therefore, Percentage change in quantity= -5%.

Thus, revenues will fall by 5%………………

Why china shift to free market system?

give me a little draft on that question. i would like to know it .

Deng Xiaoping decided to use market methods/capitalism because China’s economy was not great/doing well at the time. It was the 1970s or 1980s and Mao died shortly before he took power. The Cultural Revolution (which targeted many middle class and rich persons and devastated the economy) led to many problems and China’s economy was in a bad shape (Communist methods had not achieved economic growth nor helped the economy of the country). So, Deng Xiaoping decided to use market methods/capitalism to fix the economy and strengthen it. He succeeded and the economy of China is strong today (albeit with problems too but its growing).

——

Deng Xiaoping said, “Poverty is not socialism. To be rich is glorious. ”
And with that, China began its reform to a market based society with a Communist Government.

Is Calling a Straight Woman a Lesbian An Insult?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I am not married, due to major health isssues and other concerns. I don’t date either because I don’t want lead a man on for marriage or seriousness and because of my health. I am pretty, smart, and decent, however, men call me “lesbian” if I don’t go out with them or assume it in so many words.

The ones that are calling you that INTEND it as an insult.

It just demonstrates their intense fear of rejection and their extreme homophobia, not to mention their non-existent egos, more than it does the actual “insulting” nature of the word itself.

“Lesbian” and “Gay” are not things to be ashamed of, of derogatory terms, in themselves. It’s just ignorant jerks who think otherwise. Don’t worry, it just means they weren’t clever enough to come up with anything else to assauge their delicate egos.

——

i think it’s meant as an insult, yes - usually said by men when women won’t date them

i’ve never been called one (that i can remember anyway) but it wouldn’t bother me at all. for a start i don’t care if someone’s gay. and calling someone gay when they’re not, well how is that an insult? it’s like calling someone fatty when they’re thin

——

Because you’ve bruised their ego. Arrogant men (not all men are like this, by the way), but arrogant men have to tell themselves something, make some sort of excuse as to way every woman is not dying to have sex with him

Why don’t feminists speak up to other women regarding their poor life choices?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Most women seem obsessed with things like makeup, gossip and watching American Idol. Why don’t feminists try to give these women a gentle nudge into a more meaningful life that reflects feminist ideals that were fought long and hard for?

It isn’t that simple, I agree with you that some women take advantage of the rights that feminism won, but still continue to act shallow and at a disadvantage using the system.
But I cant change these women anymore then you cant change the thugs in the street(though it might be safe for me to try)
All I…or any feminist can do is set a good example…touch those we are close to like our daughters and friends and hope it catches on.

—–

Your assumption, that feminists automatically have the right answers, is a bit arrogant, don’t you think?

While I agree that feminist ideals were indeed fought long and hard for, they aren’t always the perfect solution for everyone’s life. People have to decide for themselves what principles they build their lives upon. Feminists have made it possible for a woman to choose what principles those are going to be, for herself. But feminists don’t have a right to tell others how to live!

I also wanted to mention that it isn’t only a ‘feminist’s’ job to teach young women what options they might have. In my own family my father was the resident feminist, and made sure we girls knew opportunity was limitless!

—-

Because if we tried to do that, we’d get told to mind our own business. The best we can do is speak/write about this sort of thing without forcing other people to agree.

—–

Even if they make poor choices, those choices are their right. THAT is what feminists have fought for.

Economics.. ?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Is there another term used for zero economic profit?
Like equilibrium or break-even? Are they even related?

Break-even is not zero economic profit.
When you have zero economic profit that means you’re only covering normal profit.
In pure competition, when you have zero economic profit, you’re in long-run equilibrium.
Break-even is where the firm shuts down.

—–

It’s also called normal profit, and it is the equilibrium in perfect competition and monopolistic competition.
Break even is more of an accounting profit term, which is different because economic profit takes into consideration the opportunity cost of capital etc, while accounting profit does not.
