What are some reasons a parent doesn’t want their kid to get a driving license?

my dad says wait till i’m 18 and him and my uncle are always saying i need to get out the house more, hey geniuses how am i supposed to get out of the house with no vehicle

For us it’s responsibility and cost. Parents’ insurance costs go waaaaaaay up when they add a teen to their policy. We can’t afford to add our kids at this point. So one of the conditions of our son getting a license is that he has to have a job that can pay the insurance premium and part of the gas. A car is not a toy and with it comes an awesome responsibility that many teens are not ready for!

I don’t want to pay for the insurance and fuel.

I don’t want to be held responsible for the accidents that WILL happen.

I don’t think he/she has the maturity or responsibility to operate a two-ton vehicle capable of manslaughter.

I don’t want to wonder where my child or car is.

I don’t want to argue with my child over whether or not he/she “needs” the car or not.

Hey genius, are there no bikes where you live? No bus system? Do you have no friends with cars? Are you on crutches and can’t walk from place to place?

Realize that licenses grant privileges, not rights. Accordingly, driving is not a right, it’s a privilege.
